b Oldham, Lancashire 1840, d Royton, nr Oldham 1914. Royal Academy of Music; organist, St Mark’s Grosvenor Sq (or N Audley St?), London, 1866–1868. Returned north in 1868 as organist of St Peter’s Oldham; his 46 years in that post, until his death, followed his father’s tenure of 48 years. Also choirmaster of the Oldham Musical Society and the Werneth Vocal Soc. He composed many hymn tunes, some in published collections, but apparently nothing else. His portrait hangs in Oldham’s Art Gallery. Nos.97=500, 206, 250=573, 435=517.
