The cry is heard from heaven:
the Judge presides in court!
He questions our integrity
by judgements we distort.
2. The voiceless, powerless poor
are harassed to despair;
their welfare is God’s charge to us;
their cause is ours to share.
3. But those who rule this world
choose wilful ignorance,
till all creation quakes in shame
before such insolence.
4. For holy dignity
the human race was made;
but mortal nature, flawed by sin,
leaves hearts and hopes betrayed.
5. The cry goes up to heaven:
‘Lord, make your justice known,
for all the earth is yours to judge,
and every land, your own.’
