b Harrow, Middx (NW London), 1948. John Lyon (secondary) Sch, Harrow, and Selwyn Coll Cambridge; he returned to the John Lyon Sch as a teacher of German, then Deputy Head, from 1974 to 2002. A composer and arranger who has been active in church music throughout his life; former choir director, organist and member of St Alban’s Church, N Harrow; currently Director of Music at John Keble Ch, Mill Hill. A member of Jubilate Hymns since the 1970s, he worked on Hymns for Today’s Church (1st edn 1982), which features several of his tunes and arrangements, and other Jubilate publications, often collaborating with David Iliff and Paul Wigmore (qv). Timeless Love, a CD featuring 24 hymn tunes with some informative background notes, was issued in 2006. He coedited the technically innovative The Carol Book with David Iliff, RSCM 2005. GUITING POWER (291) is among several widely acclaimed tunes and appears in many hymnals. The Anglo-Chinese Hymns of Universal Praise (2006 edn) includes 6 of his tunes.
