Pearce, Frederick C P
Composer
b Streatley, nr Luton, Beds 1874, d Luton 1948. His spiritual life began among the Methodists, but he later joined the Strict Baptist Ch at Barton-le-Clay nearby. Although he played no instrument, he loved singing in 4-part harmonies and leading unaccompanied voices; when composing he would sing each part of his tune while someone else wrote down the manuscript music. He became a founder member of the (SB) Companion Tune Book Trust; his work rarely appears in mainstream books but several items from him feature in The Companion Tune Book. No.660.
