b Cwmgiedd, nr Ystradgynlais, Powys (Brecon) 1866, d Chicago, USA 1934. As a youthful singer he won awards at the Swansea and Merthyr Tydfil Eisteddfodau (1880, 1881); at sixteen he conducted the Ystradgynlais prizewinning choir at Llandeilo. He emigrated to the USA c1895, qualifying there as BMus and DMus. He became Director of Music at the Central Church in Chicago, also on the staff of the Sherwood Music Sch, conducting choirs in Illinois and Ohio among other states. On his return visits to Wales he often adjudicated at the National Eisteddfod, and conducted at the 1931 Harlech Music Festival. His published music included many hymns and several for children.
