b Kendal, Westmorland (Cumbria) 1831, d Kendal 1897. Coming from a musical family, he studied the organ at York; became organist of Kendal Parish Ch at 15 and remained there for 50 years. He composed mainly for the piano, and wrote a Pianoforte Tutor. No.136.
