The story behind the hymn

Those who sing these words are consciously reversing the mockery of the soldiers in Matthew 27:29 and parallels. Dave Moody’s text (with his music ALL HAIL, KING JESUS) dates from 1981, and was taken up in 1983 by the first MP and by Carol Praise in 1987. The former book features Roland Fudge’s arrangement; the latter, David Peacock’s. This version appears to be the composer’s own.
