Guiding hand of heaven who composed my days
- Psalms 23
- 1339
GUIDING HAND OF HEAVEN, WHO COMPOSED MY DAYS
in the Father’s pleasure and eternal grace;
before time was fashioned by your mighty word,
I was chosen for the praise of Christ, my Lord.
So in joys and sorrows I can trust in you,
and with hope see every promise sure and true;
with a song of worship rising to your throne
I will bless your name as you lead me home.
2 Guiding voice of heaven, speak the truth to me,
show a path that only eyes of faith can see;
whether by still waters to restore my soul
or when storms surround me, Christ, the anchor, holds.
My good Shepherd leads me into pastures green
and through night’s dark trials goodness follows me;
with new mercies shining like the morning sun,
heaven’s guiding hand soon shall lead me home.
3 Guiding light of heaven, Son of God and man,
righteousness for sinners: Christ, the spotless Lamb;
cursed, forsaken, broken, punished, crucified,
till we hear the angels: ‘Jesus is alive!’
Raised to life in glory, bursting from the tomb,
death and hell defeated by the risen One;
all the blessings won by Christ are now our own
as the Lord of all brings his people home.
4 Guiding joy of heaven till my race is won
and the gold of faith will form the victor’s crown;
though that faith is purified by holy flames,
shielded by your power it can never fail.
Till the one I love is stood before my eyes:
Christ, the Father’s splendour, my eternal prize;
glory be to God and unto him alone—
guiding hand of heaven, you shall lead me home.
