Have you not heard?

Have you not heard?
Was it never told to you
that he who brought a universe to birth
can raise up nations and then
bring them to nothing again—
the sovereign over heaven and earth?

But those who run will not grow weary
and those who walk will never faint,
for those who trust him will renew their strength
and rise on eagles’ wings!

2. Have you not heard?
Was it never told to you
that he who made the moon, the stars, the sun,
as part of salvation’s plan
came to our earth as a man
and gave his life—God’s only Son?

So those who run will not grow weary
and those who walk will never faint,
for those who trust him will renew their strength
and rise on eagles’ wings!

3. Have you not heard?
Was it never told to you
that he who sits enthroned in heaven above
is watching over his sheep
and will not slumber or sleep
but guards us with his endless love?

So those who run will not grow weary
and those who walk will never faint;
for those who trust him will renew their strength
and rise on eagles’ wings,
and rise on eagles’ wings!

The story behind the hymn

I originally wrote this song for my second album and sang it in a number of churches in our area. Many people told me that it was their favourite song and we began to sing it regularly as a hymn in our church services. Isaiah 40 is such an encouraging passage of scripture that tells us that we can do far more than we imagine because our God is far greater than we realise. That thought was the inspiration for the song.
