I stand before the presence
of the Lord God of hosts,
a child of my Father
and an heir of his grace,
for Jesus paid the debt for me,
the veil was torn in two,
and the Holy of Holies
has become my dwelling place.

Tune

The story behind the hymn

Mavis Ford’s single-stz song, the 2nd of her two items in this book, is dated 1980 and was published in Songs and Hymns of Fellowship in 1987, entering MP in the same year. The majesty of ‘the Lord God of hosts’ is matched by the intimacy of ‘my Father’, and lines 3–4 link the torn curtain of the temple with the imagery of the Letter to the Hebrews. Words and music (I STAND BEFORE THE PRESENCE) go together.
