The story behind the hymn

Following two items of a similar date and genre comes an earlier and simpler devotional song of 4 lines only, almost always repeated when sung. Naida Hearn’s words and music (the latter, also JESUS, NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES, newly-arranged here by Margaret Ellis) came from the ‘Scripture in Song’ group in 1974, and have been accepted by a wide range of books since then including the 1980 Cry Hosanna, and Baptist Praise and Worship and Church Family Worship (both from 1991). The ‘name’ referred to in line 1 is, strictly speaking, the name ‘Lord’ (line 2) as in Philippians 2:11.
