Lord I lift your name on high
- Psalms 86:12
- John 16:28
- 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
- 314
Lord, I lift your name on high;
Lord, I love to sing your praises.
I’m so glad you’re in my life;
I’m so glad you came to save us.
You came from heaven to earth to show the way
from the earth to the cross, my debt to pay:
from the cross to the grave,
from the grave to the sky—
Lord, I lift your name on high.

Lord, I lift your name on high Composer: - Founds, Rick
The story behind the hymn
Unusually among the shorter worship-songs, this one tells a story—the story—rather than simply expressing delight or praise, though it does that as well. It dates from 1989, when Rick Founds’ words and music (LORD, I LIFT YOUR NAME ON HIGH) were heard at Spring Harvest, entering MP in 1996 and Sing Glory, 1999. Although the Lord did more than ‘show the way’ (line 5) when he came, he surely did no less: cf John 6:63–68 with 14:6 etc.
A look at the author
Founds, Rick
A guitarist and worship leader since his teens, he began a full-time ministry in 1990 and has written over 500 ‘praise songs’ in various styles. In 1992 he recorded ‘Carry me away’; today ‘he leads worship at a small church on a volunteer basis’ in S California which he regards as home. The MP series, followed by Sing Glory (1999) were the first of the larger UK collections to feature his work, in each case his best-known song, as widely used at some notable N American events and included here. No.314.
