Released in praise we worship you, O Lord.
We place our offerings before your throne,
for you alone are worthy to receive
blessing and honour, glory, might and power.
Lord you have died, but now you live on high,
reigning in majesty, reigning in power,
waiting the time when every knee shall bow
and every tongue confess that you are Lord.

The story behind the hymn
Archie Hall wrote this song in his home town of King’s Lynn, having been attracted by the simple words which became its opening phrase and title. It was sung in 1994 at the wedding of his daughter-in-law Mary (a professional cellist) at All Souls’ Langham Place, London, accompanied by a dozen other musicians conducted by Noël Tredinnick. The text weaves familiar NT language around the author’s own tune RELEASED IN PRAISE; this is the first hymnal to include it. Lawrence Ockenden has arranged the music.
