Take my life, move my heart
- 1076
Take my life: move my heart
to love the wisdom of your way,
to grow more like you every day
until your glorious kingdom come,
until your perfect will is done,
until your glory fills the earth;
until the darkness of the night has flown,
defeated by your light—
until your glory fills the earth.
2 Take my life: use my mouth
to pray and praise before your throne,
to make your glorious gospel known
until your living word is preached,
until all peoples have been reached,
until your glory fills the earth;
until the claims of Jesus Christ
have spanned the globe from east to west—
until your glory fills the earth.
3 Take my life: guide my feet
to walk with you in holiness,
to stand for truth and righteousness
until the heat of battle’s done,
until the promised victory’s won,
until your glory fills the earth;
until the final trumpet’s blown
and Christ returns to claim his own—
until your glory fills the earth,
your glory fills the earth.

The story behind the hymn
‘Take my life, move my heart was composed’ in 2009 after meditating on Habakkuk 2:14. While the whole earth is filled with God’s glory (Isaiah 6:3), there is a sense in which we wait for the day when everyone will know and acknowledge it. In the meantime our response should be one where every part of us is used by God to further his kingdom.
