You are the king of glory
you are the Prince of peace,
you are the Lord of heaven and earth,
you’re the sun of righteousness.
Angels bow down before you,
worship and adore, for
you have the words of eternal life,
you are Jesus Christ the Lord.
Hosanna to the Son of David!
Hosanna to the King of kings!
Glory in the highest heaven,
for Jesus the Messiah reigns.

The story behind the hymn
‘The King of glory’ is a title from Psalm 24, though its context there is often left behind or forgotten. 7 other titles of God or Christ, OT and NT, are woven into this song by Mavis Ford, whose own tune YOU ARE THE KING OF GLORY appeared with her words in 1978. It was included in Jesus Praise in 1982 and MP the following year; among mainstream hymnals to feature it are Baptist Praise and Worship and Rejoice and Sing, both from 1991. Also known as ‘Hosanna to the Son of David’, it has become the best known of the writer’s many songs, and may have helped to prompt the later 298.
